Why You Must Care for the Caregiver
Text your thoughts and questions!
Our natural instinct is to prioritize those who need care, not those giving the care, especially when it comes to the elderly and infirm. That’s understandable, but I refuse to leave the caregiver behind and act as though caring for another means giving up your own life.
As a repeat caregiver for elderly parents and mom of two, I’ve experienced the challenge of caring for others while also trying to care for myself. There was rarely a time when there was a choice to make (between me and those I was caring for) that anyone expected me to choose myself first. It didn’t even occur to me! That is why it is my mission to be a caregiver advocate.
In this episode of the Positively LivingⓇ Podcast, I cover the hidden toll of caregiving (and the compounding effects of stress that come with it) and seven essential self-care strategies for caregivers.
If you're a caregiver, remember: your well-being matters. You cannot pour from an empty cup. Start by implementing one small self-care strategy today, and recognize that taking care of yourself isn't selfish—it's necessary.
